Number of ways to refocus your business goals after the holidays
It can be really difficult to take a break as the owner of an online business. So many times, I used to find myself working late into the evening or during holidays. But, as I became more comfortable with my business and delegating my tasks to others that I can trust, I started better separating my personal life from my business life.
That being said, it can still be nerve-wracking to take time off from your business. There’s always that fear that a break will cause you to miss out on opportunities or fall behind your competitors because maybe they’re not taking a break. However, breaks are SO important and the holiday season is one of those times that you should definitely take some time off because
A) most of your clients are probably also taking time off and
B) your loved ones will likely also have time off too.
Today, I’m going to tell you 3 ways you can integrate yourself back into your business after the holidays, so that you can continue to run your business smoothly even after a large break.
1. Review your business plan
Before going on holiday, it’s important to review the previous year’s initiatives and evaluate the successes, failures, and room for improvement. However, it’s also a good idea to take a look at that plan again at the beginning of the new year with fresh eyes. I don’t expect that you’ll make any major changes during this time, but nonetheless it’s a good opportunity for you to refocus yourself on your goals for the year.
2. Stay ahead of the game
New year, new plan. But also, new year, new goals, new budget, new everything! After the holidays, people are shaping up for the year ahead. This time of year is when a lot of people are going to be making large decisions that are going to shape the rest of their year. For a coach, this is the best time to get your business out there and help make someone’s year even better than they imagined.
One way to stay ahead of the game is to start early. Of course, the holidays are a super important and valuable time to get some rest, spend time with loved ones, and dedicate some time to well deserved, hard-earned self-care. But starting early doesn’t have to mean jumping right back into work after Boxing day! It could simply be putting aside one day before the new year starts and setting up an action plan for the next month. Even one extra day could make a huge difference during this time of year.
3. Ease back into it, but stay focused
It’d be great if we could just turn off our brains and turn them back on again with a drop of a hat. But in reality, it takes a bit more than that to get back into the groove. Don’t be too hard on yourself if it takes you a few days to readjust your schedule.
However, make sure that you actually take some time off during the holidays, so that when you return to work you’re feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the new year. If you find that you’re feeling exhausted and unmotivated, even after this time off, it may be a sign that you need to re-evaluate your vision or values.
With that being said, during this important time, it may also be a good opportunity for you to invest in yourself! Feeling disconnected and unsure of your vision and values is a normal part of the business process.
It could be a sign that you’re ready to break out of your mould and start growing a business that truly matters to you. If this sounds like you, you may want to consider getting a strategic partner who can help you do an audit of your business and start steering it in the direction of your dream job!
Being on top of your plan, staying competitive, and maintaining focus when returning from the holidays are 3 of my top tips for refocusing your business after the holidays. However, at the end of the day, these action items are only possible if you have a solid business foundation.
A solid business foundation makes it easier for you to reintegrate into the flow of business without feeling like you’re starting over. If you find that refocusing after the holidays is difficult, then you might need a business audit to see where your business plan could improve.
